Magazine translation services in more than 25 languages

Translating the content of a magazine from one language to another, taking into account the layout, format, content and texts, so nothing displaces a picture and every caption fits.

Stack of printed magazines on display

Magazine translation services convert a publication's articles, headlines, captions and advertising into another language while respecting the layout, character counts and editorial voice of the original. Headlines and cover lines are transcreated, not translated literally. Orion Translations translates magazines and periodicals in more than 25 languages for publishers since 2009.

What does it mean to translate a magazine?

Magazine translations consist of translating the content of a magazine from one language to another, taking into account the layout, format, content and texts of the magazine in question.

To translate a magazine, a group of professionals carry out the translation, proofreading and revision work to ensure that a sentence does not displace a picture or that some texts do not fit. Editorial translation is as much about the page as it is about the words.

Editorial team reviewing an issue in progress

Editorial translation that respects the page

Magazines are designed objects: headlines are written to a character count, pull quotes are chosen for rhythm, and captions are cut to fit their box. When a translation runs 20% longer than the original, as Spanish routinely does against English, the layout breaks. Our editorial translators work to length, adapting headlines and standfirsts so they keep their punch and their fit, and we coordinate directly with your design team on final proofs.

For recurring publications we maintain a style guide and terminology memory per title, so issue after issue keeps a consistent voice, and section names, column titles and recurring features are always rendered the same way. Advertising pages within the magazine can be handled through our transcreation service so campaign copy lands culturally, not just literally.

From flatplan to final proof

A typical issue moves through four stages with us. First we receive the editorial package, the text export or InDesign files plus the flatplan, and confirm scope and deadline against your print or publication date. Translation follows, article by article, with headlines, standfirsts, captions and pull quotes adapted to length. A native-speaking proofreader then revises the full issue for consistency of tone and terminology. Finally, once your designers have flowed the translated text, we do a last pass on the laid-out proofs to catch anything the page changed: a caption that wrapped awkwardly, a headline that lost its rhythm, a hyphenation that misleads.

Deadlines in publishing are print slots, not suggestions. We schedule around your issue calendar and deliver to the date we confirm at the quote stage.
